My Why
In my Mom\’s honor, my hero
My mom struggled most of her life with undiagnosed bipolar. Hidden and ashamed she was alone. It wasn\’t something people talked about. It is invisible.
She lived behind a curtain, over medicated and twelve years ago she gave up and sadly took her life.
Although it was the darkest point in my life, it also made me realize the suffering that the mind can put the human person through. Some of the strongest and respected people I know have suffered greatly with this disease. My mom was no exception.
Because of her, I have strength and perseverance.
I have a moral compass and compassion.
I have wisdom and a passionate heart for those who suffer on any level, most especially mental illness.
She will forever be the most sensitive, classy, faithful and strongest woman I will every know. She was hysterical and very witty , the class clown of her Graduating Class.
Every step I hike, every run, every physical thing I do is for her and in her memory.
Please join me and many others who want to be part of the movement to stamp out the stigma of mental illness.
Donate, Share, Speak, Hike …. live a life of understanding because some live in more darkness than others.
1 in 4 families is affected by mental illness.

This is a wonderful thing you do Laurie!!
Thank you for making this steep uphill battle look easy. I love you and I honor your mama
I have known major depression most of my life, over 60 years. It can be debilitating as if being locked out of this world and in my own nothingness. But with the grace of God I have been healing the parts of my childhood that have contributed to this response. And I have experienced healing of my mind, forgiveness of those who abused me and have found mercy with my God. I have no problem shining the light of mental illness because I know that the more light shined on this subject, the more attention and study can be done to aleviate the problem.
Thank you for participating in this important work for our community.
Peace,
Karen
