Lake Shore Trail Photo Album
Congratulations to volunteer hike organizer Joanna Davis and her Lake Shore Trail hikers. Last weekend near Lake Norman in North Carolina they became the first hikers in our “14 in ’14” program – fourteen hikes in fourteen states in 2014. Joanna along with 30+ hikers and 100+ sponsors raised more than $3,400 for mental health research and trail preservation. They also received generous support from Amanda Caldwell Photography and from Thorlo.
Joanna led the hike in honor of her late father, Bryant A Davis, Jr. Here is her account of the day.
We got there super early to arrange a car mid-way. It was super cold with wind gusts up to 40 mph. I was afraid people would bail! But when I got to the trail head, BAM! People started pulling in! Everyone was very excited.
Amanda Caldwell Photography was kind enough to meet us at our starting point, and we took a group picture (above). The rest of the photos from the hike were taken by Danalee Pipes and myself. Danalee, it should be said, hiked with us after having a full knee replacement! Amazing! She did about 1.5 miles of it then met us at her car where we enjoyed home-baked snacks that Sallie Brown kindly provided.
The hike was amazing! I listened as I hiked. All the chatter and laughter sounded like a school cafeteria. I looked around at the grey woods that sported tiny green buds. Brilliant orange from our HIKE for Mental Health shirts blazed through the park.
Such beautiful smiling and laughing faces. Happy wagging tails of our dogs. (And some of us humans!) Such a perfect day, for all! I will do a HIKE for Mental Health hike again!!
And lest I forget to mention, our youngest hiker was Grayson Griggs, age 4. He is the one holding the Thorlo gift certificate in the photo. Thorlo generously donated free socks to all the hikers! Thank you, Thorlo!
And thank you, Joanna, for organizing this hike for us. We are looking forward to your next one.
