Goal: $2,193.00

$380.00 donated
For a couple years I have watched the organizers of this group work tirelessly to raise money for this incredibly important cause. I hadn’t registered my hike as I didn’t feel that I would be able to even come close to the amounts some hikers have been able to raise. But, then I thought of how many times in my life, for whatever reason, I have said the words “every little bit counts”. So….here I am.
Whether or not we realize it, every one of us has someone in our life dealing with mental illness. Sometimes the individual is receiving help through counseling, medication or a rehab program helping them to make changes in their lifestyle.
Very often they struggle alone, either because they have no available resources, or they are too embarrassed to seek help. Entirely too often we do not realize the struggles of these individuals until after they have chosen the ultimate solution.
HIKE for Mental Health is a non-profit all-volunteer organization that was founded on the vision of a world in which everyone, including those who suffer mental illness, can find the simple joy of living.
Since its inception in 2011, HIKE for Mental Health has raised and disbursed more than $470,000 for mental health research, mental wellness for veterans, and wilderness trail preservation.
Eighty percent of the funds raised through sponsored hikes and walks is allocated to alleviate the suffering associated with mental health, primarily by funding research grants through the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation.
The remaining 20% supports their commitment to “give back” to the trails that many (like me!) have found so therapeutic in struggling with mental health issues. HIKE has made $80,000 in distributions to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy , the Pacific Crest Trail Association , and other non-profit trail maintenance organizations..
My goal is $2,193… $1 for each mile of the Appalachian Trail that I plan (hope!) to hike. Please consider helping by sharing this link or by donating even $1 to this fantastic organization. Thank you.
