There is strength in being vulnerable. At first glance, this idea seems counterintuitive. How can I be strong if I let someone see me struggling? In that moment of self doubt our irrational brain forgets that everyone, read that again, everyone has something they wish they could change about their life. At times we feel defeated and lose faith in our competencies. Our ability to be present disappears. This happens to people at varying degrees.
If it’s not obvious by now, I’m speaking from experience. Life has a funny way of kicking us when we’re down and some cope better than others. Hiking has forced me to be vulnerable physically, mentally and emotionally. I’ve revealed parts of myself that I didn’t even know existed. I’ve confronted insecurities head on and through an abundance of love (and sweat) I pulled myself out of something all consuming.
I have no words of wisdom or epiphany inducing story. At my lowest, I found the courage to live for me. To love life back. Let this be your sign. Get the help you need. Give yourself a break from carrying the weight of the universe and let someone in.
I am doing this hike for so many reasons. I absolutely love a good physical challenge but more importantly I am hiking to advocate for a more empathetic world.

I’m donating because its important to me that we raise awareness of mental health. I suffered from depression and anxiety for most of my life and lost dear friends. I hope by raising awareness less people will suffer in silence. Sam you are amazing and I am so proud of you!! Enjoy the hike!!
