Update 9/5/21
Today is the day! Still super excited that Aiden has decided to join us. A great way to kick off our official hiking season!
Update 5/24/21
Physical Therapy has ended and my knees feel great! Tim and I have been out hiking a few times a week at Cranbury Park, mins from Mason's karate class which provides us a great way to use the time waiting for his class to be done. We are excited to explore some new spots this summer too, our list of "must try" trails is getting longer by the day. Still super excited about hiking the Giant in Sept!
Update 3/1/21
Sept 5th seems like forever and a day away, but I need something to motivate me. I've spent the last couple weeks in physical therapy because I've managed to get patellar tendinitis in not one, but two knees. That's ALL my knees y'all!
Known as "jumpers knee" its very common in elite athletes, which my curvy physique clearly proves, I am not.
So how did this happen Krista? You may ask.
Well, let me tell you.
After a couple x-ray sessions, one of which I'm told was completely useless, it turns out I have janky ass knee caps. Genetic malformation. Thanks bunches mom and dad 😒 It does explain lifelong issues with knee pain tho.
On the positive side, PT has been great. If you consider twice weekly torture a fun way to spend your time. Pro tip: when a physical therapist tells you it's massage time, do not delude yourself into thinking that its going to be enjoyable. Oh no no no, no no no. "Massage" in PT = aggressive breaking apart of the muscle tissue so it can rebuild properly. Akin to re-breaking a poorly set bone. Should you ever find yourself in this unfortunate position you will be gripping the sides of the table while trying not to lose your shit in front of everyone.
Hence the need for motivation. I like goals. They keep me on track. And if you know me at all, you know I like to hike. Which seems like a dream right now since the other day I only made it past 2 houses before having to turn the dog around and cancel her walk.
Enter the Giant. Hike for Mental Health, a fab non-profit who does exactly as the name applies, has set up a group fundraiser hiking the Sleeping Giant right here in CT on 9/5.
Hello goal!
Tim, my ever adventurous co-conspirator will come along to catch me should my knees give out along the ledge of the Giant. Or to collect the insurance money if he "misses".
This will be our 3rd year Hiking for Mental Health, and for my physical health. These knees aren't going to heal themselves!
I know 9/5 is really far away, but I've officially set up our fundraising page for those who would like to show support. We sure appreciate it as we fully believe in the Hike for Mental Health cause. It combines our favorite activity with something everyone needs 😄 Help stamp out the stigma by donating today!
