My Mom battled with depression much of my adult life. The last years of her life she battled Alzheimers. When I was born I had some physical issues. I spent my first years in casts and braces. The doctors were not sure if I would ever walk, let alone run or hike. In my late 20s I started running 5Ks, 10Ks and half marathons and I remember my mom crying because I was running against the odds.
Recently I was diagnosed with Major Depression Disorder. Most days I’m ok and many nights are a challenge. Hiking is always good.
In 2021 I will be hiking the Florida National Scenic trail. I will start on January 9th, the anniversary of Mom’s passing and I will end on March 3rd, her birthday.
I chose to join a hike with HIKE for Mental Health to help stamp out the stigma of mental illness and conserve wilderness trails.
Would you consider making a donation, leaving a message, or sharing this page?

What an amazing journey you are on…thank you for sharing it with us.
We need more awareness and the importance of access to mental health professionals particularly as so many feel alone at this time.

Thanks for taking the time to talk to me yesterday. It really made my day.
Hey , keep on being a beacon of positivity on the trail. Hope all is well.
My mother was Bipolar and I have had my own bouts with depression; mostly SAD. I’m out on the road to get out of the gray days in Ohio. I’m sure we’ll talk sometime…too many coincidences. My father’s birthday was March 2nd. Bless you…
