HIKE for Mental Health Hangs with Hennessy Hammock
I have a confession to make: I don’t mind sleeping on the ground. So when I thru-hiked last year, I would just sleep on top of my footprint and sleeping pad. For the most part, I slept fine, but along the way, I encountered many other thru-hikers who were full-fledged converts to hammocking. And I can understand why.
Sleeping in a hammock has distinct advantages over sleeping in a tent. The ability to pitch camp just about anywhere below treeline gives you tremendous freedom to choose your hiking distance each day and avoid crowds when you want a little privacy. In areas with hard-packed terrain, hammocks can be more comfortable. And they can be more cozy in the rain, floating above the puddles and mud. For all these reasons, we are honored to welcome Hennessy Hammock as a new sponsor of our Top Hiker Gear Package for 2016. Hennessy Hammock is donating an UltraLite Backpacker Asym Zip Hammock, their most popular model for ultralight backpackers. At a mere 2 lbs packed weight (a little more if you carry the tree hugger straps), it is perfect on the long trails when you need comfortable, compact shelter that will keep you safe from rain, mosquitoes, and ground that feels like concrete.
The UltraLite Backpacker Asym Zip, valued at $249.95, features a side entrance with a zipper closure and a strong #8 zipper with two double sliders. All Hennessy Hammocks come complete with attached mosquito netting, detachable rain fly, support ropes, and stuff sack with set up instructions on back. Hennessy Hammock also provides complimentary standard 42″ long “Tree Hugger” webbing straps to protect the bark of trees.
We are excited that Hennessy Hammock will be part of our 2016 Top Hiker Gear Package, which will be awarded to the hiker to raises the most money for our causes this year. Click here for 2016 prize rules and details.
Thank you, Hennessy Hammock!
