Last year, we launched our 14 in ’14 program, an effort to create hikes in 14 different states in 2014. And you responded! We were blessed with a record number of hikes, hikers, hike leaders, and funds to support mental health research and trail preservation. Thanks to everyone who made the program a great success!
This year, we need just a few more inspired hike leaders to help us get to our $50,000 goal in total fundraising from our day hikes. We call it our $50k in ’15 program because we targeting $50,000 raised from our organized day hikes in 2015.
So how about you?
If you have a love for hiking, a passion for helping others, and a heart for those who are suffering from PTSD, depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia or any other mental illness, would you consider organizing a hike for HIKE for Mental Health near you?
Diana Pease, our director of hike planning, is ready to help you. She can provide additional information, planning tools, tips, and guidance. And she can connect you with the network of existing hike organizers who are always ready to share their ideas about what works and what doesn’t.
But what would I have to do?
Organizing a HIKE for Mental Health does take some work but it is very rewarding.
You would need to pick a date and place for the hike, then promote the hike locally to sign up hikers and build enthusiasm. Rallying people to come to your hike and keeping them engaged in promoting the hike to their friends and family is the biggest part of organizing a HIKE for Mental Health. Be creative and think of ways to make it fun and to get the word out. We will support you with Google and Facebook posts and ads as well as with guidance on local press releases.
Then, of course, you would get to lead the hike, meet new friends, share the beauty of Nature with them and celebrate the success of the hike, knowing that your efforts can make the difference for people around the world suffering from mental illness.
