2014 has been a record year for HIKE for Mental Health. We are still busy tallying donations and pledges so we can close out our year and make our disbursements for 2014.
Although the final figuring is still on-going, we are able to announce the winner of our Paramount Sleep queen mattress set for 2014. This high-quality Style 1222 Back Performance MX Gel Cool Comfort Queen Size Mattress Set, valued at $3,000, is presented to the hiker who raised the greatest amount from his or her hike in 2015 by December 1. One of the most comfortable mattresses in the world will be delivered free of charge anywhere in the continental U.S., compliments of Paramount Sleep.
Record Number of $1,000 fundraisers
In total, 15 hikers representing 10 different states each raised $1,000 or more this year with their hikes. We thank each and every one of them – and their sponsors – for helping us to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and raise funds for better research, while also preserving wilderness trails across the U.S. Well done, everyone!
Two of those 15 hikers raised more than $3,000: Charlotte Miller from New Hampshire and Karen Viola from New York. Thank you, thank you!
And one of those 15, this year’s top fundraiser, brought in a total of more than $5,300! Congratulations and deep appreciation to Jonathan Lundy and his supporters. Jonathan, from Michigan, will hike the PCT in 2015 in honor of his brother.
In Jonathan’s own words:
In 2012 I lost my little brother Logan in a car accident. Ever since that moment I have been searching for something constructive to pull out of this tragedy, a way to honor Logan’s life and endless positive energy. Anyone who knew Logan can attest to his loving nature and massive heart. Nothing gave him more pleasure than helping others out. He loved people and people loved him. Sadly he also suffered from crippling anxiety that made everyday things tough for him. I know that Logan would want to be involved in helping out people who are burdened by the same things he was. HIKE for Mental Health seems to be the perfect outlet, a way to harness my grief and use it to make a positive change. This is my way of continuing to spread Logan’s light from one end of the west coast all the way to the other! Please help me reach my goal of $5,000.
Jonathan, you did reach your goal, and more. We are humbled that you selected HIKE for Mental Health as your way to remember and honor Logan. For your efforts and in tribute to Logan, a Paramount Sleep queen mattress set will be yours, to be used, given away, or donated as you desire. Congratulations, thank you, and best of luck on the trail!
