At the crack of dawn on Wednesday, February 1, the first Wednesday of the month, HIKE for Mental Health co-founder Tom Kennedy began his 300 mile walk from Houston to the State capitol in Austin.
And yes, he is wearing orange, as we invite everyone to do on the first Wednesday of each month, as a symbol of hope in the effort to stamp out the stigma of mental illness.
HIKE for Mental Health organizes hikes and walks to bring awareness to the stigma surrounding mental illness. Funds raised by these events that support scientific research into causes and treatments for PTSD, schizophrenia, depression, and other major mental illnesses. The all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit also helps preserve wilderness trails. For more information, visit www.hikeformentalhealth.
