We are excited to announce another addition to the HIKE for Mental Health all-volunteer team. Joe O’Donnell will be serving as Social Media Coordinator, helping maintain and expand our social media presence in the coming months. A tech-savvy millennial with a passion for mental health advocacy, we are excited to have Joe working with us in this new capacity.
In 2015, Joe (trail name “Psych”) completed a northbound thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, fundraising for HIKE for Mental Health along the way. He was our top fundraiser of 2015, surpassing his goal of $4 per mile of the AT (over 2,189 miles in total!). To read more about his story, you can visit his fundraising page, or read some of his reflections on the hike on his personal blog.
Since completing his thru-hike, Joe has kept in touch with us at HFMH and shared ideas about expanding our outreach. When asked what he hopes to achieve in his role, he explains:
My main goal is not just to increase the number of likes and followers HIKE for Mental Health has on various social media platforms, although I believe that will happen. My goal is to help spread the powerful mission of this organization: to walk alongside individuals suffering from mental illness, decreasing stigma and providing hope in the process.
If you would like to contact Joe to talk hiking and/or mental health, share outreach ideas, or just say hi, feel free to send him an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Welcome, Joe! We are thrilled to have you continue on with HFMH in this expanded role!
